Upcoming Exhibition Showcases Selected Images from The Nevada County Camera Club
Nevada County Arts Council and the Grass Valley-Nevada City and Truckee Cultural Districts invite the community to attend the opening reception for the newest Art in Public Spaces exhibition, Culture in Focus | Celebrating our Cultural Districts with The Nevada County Camera Club. Through the many talented lenses of the Camera Club, this photography exhibition takes a look at both of Nevada County’s celebrated California Cultural Districts.
The images on display highlight the cultural legacy of our state's most valuable resource—its diversity. From larger, urban areas to uncharted rural locations, each California Cultural District helps grow and sustain authentic arts and culture opportunities, increase the visibility of local artists, and promote opportunities through culture and creative expression. Nevada County is primed to promote the unique arts and culture of our communities against a backdrop of shared history and ecological stewardship.
“I’m thrilled and excited that the Camera Club is teaming up with the Nevada County Arts Council for this exhibit celebrating culture and the arts. Living in Nevada County, a place so passionate about the arts and rich with history and tradition, offers endless opportunities for photography—whether it's capturing the vibrancy of street fairs, celebrating our community's spirit, or reflecting on the struggles of our city's founders, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Sierra Nevada foothills,” says Mike Oitzman, President of the Nevada County Camera Club.
“Since its beginning, photography has played an important role in documenting history, people, and cultures. Through images, we share stories of our lives; the things we value. Photography enables us to better understand and appreciate both our shared and unique heritage, fostering a sense of belonging. We hope this exhibit gives you that sense of connection while showcasing the diverse perspectives and experiences of our photographers.”
Nevada County Camera Club is a vibrant community of 150 photographers, from beginners to seasoned professionals, united by a love for photography. Their mission—Inspire, Educate, and Elevate Photography—is accomplished through monthly meetings, annual workshops and a variety of field trips. Dedicated to passing on their knowledge of photography, club members facilitate public photography walks, ongoing youth and adult education through classes taught at Sierra College, various high schools, in private and group lessons, and through partnership with the Nevada County Library.
Camera Club members were asked “what does culture mean to you?” The result is a glimpse into the people, art, and culture that make our communities the dynamic places we love to live, work and play. Culture in Focus is a sampling only, with over 100 beautiful submissions only 47 are on display in this exhibition. Among them, you will see familiar places, people, events, and perhaps even discover something new about Nevada County’s two Districts. Culture in Focus is an invitation to the community to slow down, take a look, and rediscover your love for Nevada County.
