April is Arts, Culture & Creativity Month
Arts, Culture, & Creativity Month (ACCM) is a statewide celebration honoring the intrinsic value of arts, culture, and creativity as not only a public good—transforming communities and individuals—but also as a driver of prosperity for state and local economies. This year’s theme is “Art Work is Real Work.” Artists play an essential role in our economy and our health with critical contributions across a variety of social impact areas but often are without the services and conditions they need to thrive due to the ongoing undervaluing of their work.
Nevada County Arts Council is taking this opportunity to spotlight the arts and raise visibility and awareness of the value that artists, culture bearers, cultural organizations and creative workers generate for our economy and communities.
Throughout the month of April we’re inviting our community to Spring Into Art by seeing a show, buying a piece of art, or attending one of the many events hosted throughout our two state-designated Cultural Districts. The arts are an important part of our local economy, and they would not be a success without YOU!
Welcome to Arts, Culture & Creativity Month! There are many ways to get involved in supporting the arts, both locally and regionally:
Become an Arts Advocate
Join us, alongside Californians for the Arts, at the 2024 Arts & Culture Summit on April 16.
Join us for meetings with your state legislators on Arts Advocacy Day in Sacramento on April 17. Watch the Advocacy Training Video and get ready to engage your state legislators during ACCM! In this Zoom workshop, Californians for the Arts discusses issues, budget asks and talking points, and shares tips & resources for effective advocacy. Everyone is welcome!
Familiarize yourself with the Governor’s 2024-25 January Budget Proposal and the Legislative Budget Asks as they relate to the Arts (coming soon!)
Engage your representatives: tag them on social media or write an op-ed!
Get Out & Enjoy the Arts
Immerse yourself in the arts and culture of our mountain home this Spring and discover the local haunts and unique venues in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Truckee, and beyond with our curated Spring Into Art guides. Make a day of it by exploring the arts, visiting a gallery, enjoying a meal, strolling our historic downtown streets and finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Support Local Artists & Cultural Organizations
If you run a business or non-profit, consider working with local artists. Hire a graphic designer to update your brand, sell work by local artists in your shop, hire a musician to play at your event. There are so many ways to partner with artists to boost your business. Don’t know where to start? Check out our Artist Directory for information on over 200 local artists working in every discipline.
If you have a specific project in mind, we can help you create a Call to Artists to help connect you to creatives who are looking for opportunities.
Become a member of Nevada County Arts Council. As Nevada County’s umbrella agency for the arts, we support and assist artists through career development, fiscal sponsorship, arts advocacy, marketing and promotion, and much more. An investment in Nevada County Arts Council is an investment in your local arts community.
Have a favorite arts organization or venue in tow? Consider making a donation and becoming a member! Your financial support keeps our arts scene thriving.
Spread the Word
If you’re involved with a local event, post it on our Community Arts Calendar. This is our one-stop-shop for cultural events.
