Nevada City – July 19, 2024. Nevada County Arts Council and Upstate California Creative Corps have partnered with California for the Arts (CA for the Arts) to bring Northern California the next Regional Conversation on the Arts on Saturday, August 3 at the Museum of Northern California Art (MONCA) in Chico. The public is invited to attend this vitally important conversation to learn about the state of the arts in California, during one of the most devastating budget deficit years.

The event begins with a celebration of the Upstate California Creative Corps grantees, totaling 80 projects across 19 counties whose grant activity period has just ended. Project themes include houselessness and affordable housing, intergenerational learning, mental and behavioral health, protection of native and endangered species, resource and forest management, rural resilience, social services, water diversion, wellness, healing and healthy living, ancestral practices and knowledge, anti-racist programming and curriculum, circular economies, climate mitigation, emergency preparedness, environmental restoration, food justice, access and sovereignty, and holistic watershed health. Each with a focus on bringing awareness and moving the needle on these important issues that rural California’s communities know all too well.

From Julie Baker, CEO of California for the Arts, “Our regional conversations offer a unique and invaluable opportunity to convene, connect, and guide CA for the Arts. By listening to the voices of artists and cultural workers who form the backbone of Upstate California's creative industry, we can better inform and strengthen our advocacy efforts. Join us to shape the future of the arts in our state.”

At 4:00pm the doors of MONCA open to the public and CA for the Arts starts their Regional Conversation. These convenings take place across the state each year and serve to bring together artists, arts organizations, creative workers, businesses, and supporters of arts and culture across the state to hear updates on legislation affecting the sector, to learn about advocacy, and to share what is impacting arts and culture in communities small and large.
