With 60 artists from around Northern California placing works in 37 different business venues in both Grass Valley and Nevada City, the Wild and Scenic Art Exhibition featured a growing core of talented local artists as well as distinguished artists from the Tahoe region, the Bay Area, and the I-80 corridor.

The 2015 Exhibition and Wild and Scenic Film Festival began with a well-attended Artists Reception at 151 Union Street on Thursday afternoon, January 15. 3-D Environmental Films followed at 7 pm two doors down at the Del Oro Theater.

Distinguished judges – Carol Turner (MFA) distinguished painter from San Francisco with works Exhibited in many venues including SFMOMA, The Commonwealth Club, The Triton Museum, and Santa Clara University; and Jeff Pelline, Journalist and Publisher of Sierra FoodWineArt Magazine – awarded prizes in categories including Best of Theme, 3-Dimensional Art, 2-Dimensional Art, and Photography, and Student. In addition to Honorable Mentions, ten 1st and 2nd place winners received prizes totaling $1,500 – ranging from a $300 first prize to a $50 gift certificate. Many people enjoyed the “Wild and Happy Hour” wine/beer/art strolls in both Grass Valley and Nevada City. A $10 ticket gave access to 6 pour stations (mostly downtown winery tasting rooms), and a large number of art display venues, many with the artist on hand to discuss their work. In keeping with the sustainability theme of the Festival, a reusable “Klean Kanteen” stainless steel cup was included for the price as well!
